Get this: Yesterday, during a pretty chaotic "Youth Speaks" class with the darling middle schoolers, 2 of my 14 year-old students were being pretty secretive about something. When I walked, over, I discovered that one of the students had brought a sandwich-size bag of condoms and was passing them to the other student. Normally, I wouldn't mind it, knowing full well that these "darling" students of mine are having sex on a regular basis. This time, however, they were creating quite a distraction and being really loud and downright dirty about the situation. So, when I told them to put the condoms away because they were aiding in the disruption of the already chaotic classroom, student one turned to me and said, "What's the matter, Miranda? You don't want 'em? I bet you like it raw, huh..."

I used every ounce of self-control that I had left in me NOT to laugh hysterically when he said it. After immediately separating him from the classroom to talk to him about the inappropriateness of his choice of words to an adult (and letting him know that if he needed to talk to someone out sex, I would find someone for him to talk to about sex--go me!) I left the classroom and busted out in laughter. I'm still laughing about it, as a matter of fact.

Ohhhh, these kids are nearly too much to handle sometimes!

There, I feel better.

I have no qualms about it; sometimes, I am a jackass. I forgot an entire load of laundry at my favorite "mat" last night (the Bing Wong, in case you were wondering, and I know you were). When I went back to retrieve it, nearly 24 hours later, every item of clothing was still in the dryer. God, I love the people of Berkeley.

The unfortunate thing about the entire situation is that it was during this visit to the Bing Wong that I saw the following sign for the first time. I'm not sure what the people of Berkeley will do now that they can't roll joints in the Bing Wong!

Yes, I am obsessed with Storyhill. I went to see them again on Sunday evening in Novato (about a 45 minute drive, for you non-California residents). It was a full-length show and worth every minute of driving and every penny of the $15 admission. Favorites of the night included, "If I could," "Boulder River," and "Stillwater River." I'm so sorry you missed it...

Year: 1995--The first time I was exposed to the music Chris Cunningham and John Hermanson aka "Chris and Johnny" at Luther Heights Bible Camp. Love at first listen.

Year: 1996--Mom bought me my first Chris and Johnny CD "Miles and Means" because she was probably tired of me ranting and raving about them and how great they are.

Year: somewhere between 95 and 96: Chris and Johnny changed their name to "Storyhill" and I don't have a clue as to why.

Year: 1997--Storyhill decided to take a hiatus from singing together. I was heartbroken and distraught....even more so because when I showed up at Augustana College that fall, I found out that Storyhill has performed there every year for the past 7 or 8 years. When their last show was recorded and distributed, I bought a copy and huddled in my dorm with Jill Brown, listening to the masterpieces.

Year: 1998--I saw Jonny play a solo show in Bookings, South Dakota!

Year: 1999--I talked my mom into going to a house concert of Chris' in Boise, since I couldn't be there. I Swore to Liz Amrhein that if I ever got married, "If I Could" would be my wedding song.

Year: 2001 and 2002--My year on Captive Free. I missed about 4 Storyhill reunion shows that year.

Year: 2003--Storyhill played in Chicago! And I missed them due to work stuff.....grrrrrrrr!!!

Year: 2006--March 9. Paid $19.50 to go see Storyhill perform a 30 minutes set (opening for Erika Luckett) in Berkeley, then left after the show because there wasn't any thing worth seeing after they wowed me. For all of the shows that I've missed in the past, paying $19.50 was worth the 30 minutes. I took this horrible photo from my phone just to prove to myself (and you) that I was there. And I'm still contemplating missing my company party to go see them again. Call me crazy!

For those who are unaware, I like to make up words. After reviewing a few of my posts, I came to the realization that some of you might just think I'm an idiot for writing words like "mediocre-ness." It was on purpose. I know the word "mediocrity" should fit in there 'cuz it's the title of my blog. So if you think you see a typo, you might want to adjust your eyes. I might just be playing with your mind.

I also like to take words and fit them into other words. My favorites include "ricockulous," "chillaxin," and "sexellent."
